IFBA Flair Challenge

IFBA Flair Challenge 2019

(Mixology & Flair Bartending Competition)

4th July 2019, Manpho Convention Centre, Manyata Tech Park Road, Bengaluru, India

BACKGROUND

Flair Bartending is the practice of bartenders entertaining guests, clientele or audiences with the manipulation of bar tools (e.g. cocktail shakers) and liquor bottles in tricky, dazzling ways.

Flair Bartending in India

Flair had been a game changer for the Indian bartending industry during the early 2000’s, breaking the stereotype that a bartenders job was to just pour drinks, know basic cocktails and handle inventories. By bringing in the Entertainment factor during bar operations, Flair not only grabbed the attention of consumers but also bar owners and liquor companies who realised that “Flair can be used as a tool to add to the drinking experience of the patrons and increase sales at the bar”. This resulted in multiple flair bartending competitions being organised across the country which popularised this skill and motivated bartenders to incorporate flair in their daily bar operations.

Current Scenario: Latterly due to the changing trends, consumer drinking patterns and conditioning of the serving style of the bartenders through annual competitions organised by liquor companies, Flair had to take a back seat which created a gap in its growth leading to demotivating bartenders to pursue flair. With the intention of bridging this gap which was vital for the survival of the flair bartending community, Indian Flair Bartenders Association (IFBA) was formed.

About IFBA

IFBA is non profit organisation formed by a group of professional bartenders with a back ground in Flair Bartending and enormous years of experience in Bar and Beverage industry.

IFBA's Objective: is to motivate the Indian flair bartending community to hone their Mixology & Flairing skills through training's & master classes, and give them a platform to showcase it by competing with the best in the industry.

Area of concern: Despite the rapid economic growth in the Bar & Beverage Industry in our country and numerous talent available in the bartending space, India hasn’t created any World Flair Champions. One of the main reason is due to a lack of Flair competitions being organised.
